Overcome Phobias
Watch this short 2 minute video of EFT Founder Gary Craig helping Becci clear her phobia of rats:
Phobia (external link) is defined as:
- A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
- A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.
Phobic responses occur because of a disruption in the body's energy system. Neutralizing the energy disruption will permanently eliminate the phobia.
How I use EFT to resolve phobias
The specifics of each person's phobia are unique, but the method of using EFT to overcome the phobia remains the same:
- Identify the specifics of your phobia—what precisely is it that frightens you?
- Take the edge off your fear, and deal with anything that will hamper progress in resolving your phobia (polarity reversal). This step should minimize your discomfort when we deal with the specifics of your phobia.
- Use EFT to handle the specific details of your phobia. We will eliminate your emotional response to each aspect of your phobia before dealing with the next one.
- Test to see whether we have cleared your phobia, initially using visualization. If there is any residual work to be done, we will clear this using EFT. I might also test your response using pictures or by exposure to your object of fear, if this is practical. If we both agree to the latter, I will test you extensively before exposing you to your object of fear in order to minimize the possibility of traumatizing you.
How long will this take?
The length of time you've had a phobia bears no relation to the time it will take to resolve it. Many phobias are simple, and respond quickly to EFT. Some phobias contain many aspects, and each aspect must be neutralized for complete phobia relief.
An aspect, in EFT terms simply means a facet of a problem. In terms of a spider phobia for example, there may be several aspects that need to be addressed with EFT:
- Seeing a spider motionless, on the wall, in the tub, or on a carpet.
- The feel of a spider's web as it touches your skin.
- Being startled by a spider suddenly running.
- Being afraid of a spider landing on your face.
- Hating the look of the spider, with its long hairy legs.
Most phobias can be resolved very quickly (in one session), and even complex phobias (those with multiple aspects) will normally be resolved within 2 sessions.
