The Sequence
Tap lightly with two fingers of your dominant hand on each of the 13 points. Alternatively, you can simply tap on the first 8 points, as often this is all that is needed. The tapping action can be quite distracting so while you are tapping each point you need to repeat a reminder phrase that will keep you tuned into the problem you are attempting to resolve with EFT. For example, if your setup phrase was:
"Even though I have butterflies in my stomach when I give a speech, I deeply and completely accept myself."
then your reminder phrase would be:
"Butterflies in my stomach" or "Speech butterflies".
There are no hard and fast rules for the number of times you need to tap each point; usually between five and seven light taps is fine, but if a point is particularly sensitive then I would recommend tapping it until it becomes less sensitive.
If for whatever reason a particular point is too sensitive to be tapped then there are a couple of alternatives:
- either lightly massage the point with your two fingers; or
- lightly press your fingers on the point while inhaling and exhaling deeply.
Whether you are tapping, massaging or holding a point the use of two fingers will cover a wider area, thereby increasing your chances of targeting the right spot.
