Nine Gamut
This process is useful for integrating the work that you have done with various parts of the brain. Through research into NLP it is known that the position to which the eyes move is indicative of accessing different parts of the brain (external link), so eye movements are used in order to perform this integration.
Gamut Point
The Gamut Point is tapped while performing each step of the Nine Gamut procedure. It is located thus: place two fingers from your dominant hand between the knuckles of your ring and little finger on your other hand, then move them back towards the wrist approximately 1"—this is the Gamut Point, which should be tapped lightly.
While tapping the Gamut Point perform the following nine actions:
- Close your eyes.
- Open your eyes.
- Without moving your head, look hard down to the right.
- Without moving your head, look hard down to the left.
- Without moving your head, move your eyes in a circle, clockwise.
- Repeat step 5, but this time counter clockwise.
- Hum the opening bars of a song (I suggest "Happy Birthday", as this is universally known).
- Count aloud: one, two, three, four, five.
- Hum the opening bars of a song again.
Although steps 7-9 seem a little absurd, they are used to integrate the left and right hemispheres of the brain: humming is controlled by the right side of the brain; counting utilizes the left side of the brain.
